Pole dancing is a form of dancing / gymnastics that takes muscular endurance and coordination as well as sensuality. It involves dancing with a vertical pole where the dancer may simply hold the pole, or use it to perform more athletic moves such as climbs, spins, and body inversions. Upper body and core strength are important to proficiency, which takes time to develop.
Pole Dance is now a recognised form of exercise adopted by women from all over the world and can be used as both an aerobic and anaerobic workout. It is more than just a sexy routine danced around a pole. It requires strength, flexibility and athleticism in order to execute the moves well and with ease. Mastering tricks on the pole is a very empowering experience.
Recognised schools and qualifications are being developed as pole dancing increases in popularity. Pole dancing is also regarded by many as a performing art.
Linna Tan is the pioneer of pole dance and the first to teach group exotic dance classes in Singapore. Linna has been featured in many publications, including The Straits Times, The New Paper, Elle, Shape, Female, IS magazine and Indulgence.
There are two types of classes for Pole Dance – Pole-xercise and Pole-licious.
Pole-licious 1 This Pole Dance course is for students who wish to incorporate dance moves with their pole tricks. The warm up and strengthening exercises will be similar to those done in Pole-xercise I. However, more time will also be spent on body isolations and flexibility exercises to prepare students to execute Pole Dance moves.
Pole-licious 2
The conditioning exercises at this level will be more challenging as students will be expected to perform more difficult Pole Dance tricks such as inverts. The Pole Dance moves will also be more demanding, so time will be spent on breaking the moves down into easy-to-follow steps.
Pole 3
As the students become more confident in their Pole Dance tricks and dance moves, this level will progress at a more rigorous pace.
Pole 4 / Pole 5 / Pole Adv (By audition only)
The Pole Dance choreography taught at this level will have both advanced pole tricks and transitional dance moves.
Pole-xercise 1
This is a fitness class that incorporates pole strengthening and cardio exercises, making use of the pole, resistance bands and your own body weight. Simple pole tricks will be taught in this level. Classes will end with stretching and flexibility training, essential for execution of certain pole tricks.
Pole-xercise 2
The pole strengthening and cardio exercises at this level will be more challenging. More difficult pole tricks, such as inverts, will also be taught as you should be able to hold your own body weight after completing Pole-xercise I.
